About Colorado College

Colorado College, more popularly referred to as simply CC, is a private liberal arts college in Colorado Springs, which is the most populous city and the county seat of El Paso County, situated in the US state of Colorado, having a population of more than 400 000 inhabitants, fact which also makes it the 2nd most populous city in the state, after Denver, and the 46th most populous US city.

Colorado College was founded by Thomas Nelson Haskell, in 1874, and sits on land designated by U.S. Civil War veteran General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and of Colorado Springs. It currently offers its students over 80 majors, minors and specialized programs, and, in addition to its undergraduate programs, it also offers a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree.

Athletics

CC's sports teams call themselves the Tigers and they compete in NCAA Division III, in most sports, except men's hockey, in which they compete in the NCAA Division I Western Collegiate Hockey Association, and women's soccer, in which the Tigers compete as an NCAA Division I team, in Conference USA. Their distinctive colors are gold and black.

Notable Alumni

Among CC's noteworthy graduates there are: Neal Baer - television producer/writer and pediatrician, Lori Garver - deputy NASA administrator, James Heckman - winner of 2000 Nobel Prize for Economics, Marcia McNutt - geophysicist, director of U.S. Geological Survey, science advisor to U.S. secretary of the interior, and Elizabeth Cheney - attorney, co-founder of Keep America Safe, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and Lynne Cheney.
